I just read this news article from Inquirer.Net about public schools that may face closure if they fail to perform well in the next National Achievement Test (NAT). The complete article is here.
After reading this news article, I wondered, is this for real? I mean, the Philippine government always has a problem with the lack of classrooms and teachers, and now they’re warning government-owned schools of closure if the students don’t perform well in the exam. I know, we should try to improve the state of the educational system in our country, but isn’t this too much? They should try to assess the situation and pinpoint the primary source of the problem.
Why do the students perform poorly in achievement exams? I wouldn’t enumerate them here because we already know all of these. Every year, especially during budget-allocation time in Congress and before the start of classes in June, we try to address the growing problems in the system of education. Has it improved in the last n-years?
If they try to close some public schools who performed poorly in the NAT, what would happen to the students and the teachers? I don’t even want to think about it.

hi mazel, it’s me =) i know what you mean, politicians are always saying there’s not enough classrooms and now they’re thinking of closing some. why don’t they try improving them? they lack the political will kasi. i remember masci, the facilities were bad during our time, i haven’t been there in a while. i couldn’t invite new friends to go there to celebrate our foundation day because they might get disillusioned haha.

hi nina! thanks for visiting my site.
i agree that they lack political will. and i also think that they should really look into this problem. these students, whose schools the government might close some day, will be the future leaders of our country. so i think it is reasonable that we should provide them quality education, so in the future, we will have quality leaders.
