what’s the oldest SMS/MMS message do you have in your phone? what’s the oldest email do you still have in your inbox? what’s the oldest souvenir/memento do you have?
keeping mementos is not bad. it means that you’re a sentimental person, who wants to keep something to remind you of that memory or experience. some people keeps the letters and cards. some keeps rose petals, chocolate wrappers. others even keep receipts and tissue napkins.
i’m also guilty of keeping mementos. i keep letters and tickets. in my inbox in yahoo, my oldest e-mail would probably from 2000 or 1999. if i still have my cellphone with me, my oldest sms message would be from 1999. in my office e-mail, the oldest was from 1999.
why keep these? some of these letters/messages inspire me. some of these, well.. i still haven’t dealt with. i remember, i told myself that i would only delete my messages when the message already failed it’s purpose, that is, if it doesn’t inspire me anymore. there were also messages that hurt me and made me realize things. i only deleted it when i already dealt those hurt, when i already learned the things that i need to learn.
right now, i’m starting to “let go” some of my messages. though they still inspire me, and reading them still makes me smile, i know that i need to let go of these things. i realize, these are not the real reason why i feel inspired, or why i smile. it’s the people who sent these messages. i might one day lose all of these (my computer could crash, the server could crash), but inside my mind and heart, these “mementos” would stay with me as long as i live.

haha same here. on letting go of messages –i agree it’s the person, not the message. though if they take just few MBs of our pc and phone, why not keep them still, hahaha! hay napaka sentimental ko rin grabe.

hahaha.. oo nga. sentimental talaga natin. pero syempre, pag wala ka nang space sa inbox mo or bumabagal na ang pc mo because of the huge amount of “unnecessary” clutter, it’s probably “time” to let go. hehehe.
