safe in japan?
Posted in experiencing Japan, political-social issues by mazel at 10:28 am |

japan is known to be one of the safest countries in the world. and for me, when i first came here, i admit that i felt safer here than in my own country. but i’ll say, i’m safer with my family back in the Philippines.

recently, there have been reports about a father in tokyo killing his entire family. sad thing is, his wife was a Filipino and his son is just 7 months old. (for the news article, click here.). how could you kill a 7-month old baby? and his reason for doing this? to put it simply, he’s stressed over some loan and lack of sleep due to the crying of the baby. he tried to kill himself but failed. though i’m really against suicide, he should have just killed himself, and not his entire family.

and this morning, another news about a father killing his parents and his wife, injuring his 2 young sons and attempting to commit suicide. Fortunately, his daughter had escaped to a nearby house. The report just said that “he stabbed them in a family dispute”, but the reason for the dispute is not yet clear. (for the news article, click here).

i can’t imagine how someone could hurt, and even kill, a child. 7-month old baby. 8-year old and 4-year old boys. it’s really, really sad. and the trauma for these children. how could they cope with it? and i noticed that many crimes committed in japan involves children. it’s really sick.. and they’re saying that they’re having problems with their population.

japan is still probably one of the safest country in the world. but as for me, i’d rather be safe with my family in a not-so-safe country.
