I’ve been facilitating the English Conversation Class for more than 2 years now. I’m not an English major, and I know that I’m not really qualified to teach it. But since I’m the only foreigner in the office who could speak it well, the job’s mine.

This job’s really frustrating. I’m running out of ideas and the people attending it is getting fewer. Of course, their attendance depends on their workload. So if they’re not that busy, they could attend the class. Or even if they’re not that busy, their attendance also depends on the time they wake up and the situation of the traffic going to the office.

Maybe my biggest frustration is, coming to the office earlier than usual to teach the class, only to find out that no one is coming. I’ve thought about giving my number or my cellphone to them so they could email me if they’re coming or if they’re going to be late. At least I’ll know if I would cancel the class and I could take my time preparing for work. Usually, when I have a class, I don’t have time to eat my breakfast. And since I wake up earlier than usual, my sleep’s not enough.

When I was in college and doing my thesis, I hated it when people disregard the value of time. I hated those times when I left my thesis project to be on time for a meeting, waited for more than 30 minutes for the people I was going to meet to come, and then they finally texted me to tell me that they can’t make it. Frustrating right? Actually, I can’t remember if I ever got the chance to meet those people.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t hate waiting for people, cause I know that sometimes I’ve also made other people wait for me. But my point is, they could have informed me earlier that they’d be late or that they’re not coming so I could also adjust my schedule. Waiting is okay, as long as I know how much I’m going to wait.
